Do you really want to be successful? Have you been wondering why somethings don’t work for you and yet other people get these things done?
My friend, do you ever think other people have better opportunities than you? If I were in America, I would have been better off. I didn’t attend a good school. My parents weren’t rich enough. I never had anyone to guide and advise me.
While all of this might be true…the more likely truth is that we prevented our own success with disempowering, bullshit excuses.
Let’s stop coming up with justifications and take full responsibility for our lives. It’s not about the conditions we are in because other people with our conditions have been successful.
There is a saying; “if you ask everybody to give you reasons why they have not accomplished some of their wishes or dreams”, there will always be something to say. Some of them are so good at given excuses that they will spend reasonable time and brain power to cook an excuse for their failures; whereas that same time and energy is all they need to figure out the solutions to most of their problems.
All that is required is the discipline to focus on our GOAL and do everything we can to get to the treasure island.
There is book by Brian Tracy: No Excuses (The power of Self Discipline). In this master pieces the author describes Self Discipline as the ability to “do what you should do when you should do it whether you feel like it or not “.
The two enemies of self-discipline are:
- The path of least resistance (shortcuts, get rich quick mindsets etc.)
- And the concept of instant gratification (pleasure now with no concern for the future).
Trust me, successful guys don’t like to waste time, rather they think of better ways to do things, not necessarily the easiest. Some of us are very good with easy things and short-cut so the extent that we deliberately keep our eyes off the consequences that follows.
Some of us want to have fun and enjoy life and miss out on the doing things the right way. Instead of us to focus on doing things so well to have a sustainable fun-filled life.
We know our lapses, what we give excuses for most of the time.
As a Father and Husband, your house is not in order and you keep looking out for the fault in your Wife and kids. Have you thought of the things you really didn’t do well or the communication you failed to have with your spouse and kids? The actions you were responsible for?
Taking responsibility and ownership in every situation around them is what most of this great guys do.
They look at every scenario and figure out what they would have done differently to solve the problem.
Learn to get things done without giving excuses for not achieving them on daily bases.
Always, close out on all your personal and organizational deliverables every day and ensure you keep moving forward.
For every single task/action you fail to do now is waiting for you and creates backlog in your life and career.
You are where you were last year with your career, business, relationship, and you think it is Buhari, Fuel scarcity. I laugh as you will notice that we are all in this country together and the successful people will keep looking out for opportunities and never let the current situation of their life or country disturb their dream of tomorrow.
KNOW that there are countless millions of dollars’ worth of gold in the mountains of the earth, not yet brought to light; and know that if there were not, more would be created from Thinking Substance to supply your needs. – Wallace D Wattles (The Science of Getting Rich)
Keep Growing, and moving forward, don’t give yourself reason for not doing that. You are not the person with the greatest problems. Stop giving yourself reasons for not doing the right things.
The ultimate goal in life is to be happy. You should define your model of happiness and then work towards it.
Independent of your goals, lifelong learning is imperative for any measurable success to be attained.
- Enroll for that course.
- Apply for your masters
- Start that business of yours, and initiate that wonderful idea buried in you.
- Drop your pride and go close to those who will draw you closer to your destination
Don’t be afraid of failing. It’s better to fail now, learn the lessons, and move forward.
Success have left a clue; Learn about other successfully guys in your industry and find out how they operate. Start from there.
I hear people say: “Only if I had the connection” – I have written about circle of influence. Go and read or check out the history of that person you claim has this connection. Connections & Relationships don’t just fall from heaven; that person was once without these influences. He worked his ass out and delivered value, thus his network grew and referrals.
If you asked them, they might not be able to explain, but they had a burning desire for success and never gave excuses for not being at the top of their game.
Work hard! Self-discipline means paying the price as long as it takes for us to achieve our goals. Don’t waste time looking for shortcuts but rather concentrate on what has proven to work for countless successful people. That means working your butt off. Everything else is a lie.
Define your goals and write them down. A seven step process on achieving your goals is shown below:
- Decide exactly and specific what you want
- Write it down
- Choose a deadline
- Make a list of actionable steps, possible obstacles and the resources you need
- Organize this list by sequence and priority
- Take action today
- Do something every day, even if it is only something small
Look carefully at item 4. What people do is to identify obstacles, without spending time on what they can do about it, and getting resources they’ll need.
Most people think success comes from good luck or enormous talent, but many successful people achieve their accomplishments in a simpler way: through self-discipline.
